Since the fall of 1999 the Franciscan Center has sponsored an annual Journey to El Salvador in commemoration of the Church martyrs who lived and died there in solidarity with the poor and oppressed. The group joins with the people of El Salvador (and many others from around the world) in prayer and pilgrimage. The purpose of an immersion experience is to live with and walk among the poor of the country- and in the process to be personally transformed by these sacred encounters and events. In this way, the issues of justice and peace are no longer just words on a page but words that have been burned into our heart and consciousness. We return with a strong sense of being one in Christ with all our brothers and sisters in the world - especially the poor and oppressed.
